DIY Bubbly Fun

broken image

Glow sticks swirl and fireworks explode in long evenings of playing outside, with bubbles floating through the air to the delighted laughs of little ones. For me, these are a few hallmarks of the summer season; and it’s a real treat to sit back and behold them all while I cool off and take in the seasonal scene. It’s inspiring me to share an idea floating around in my mind: how to incorporate your dōTERRA® essential oils into plans for bubbly summer fun!

Let’s make On Guard® Bubbles as a substitute for those classically sticky containers of bubbles that always seem to light up a child’s face. Playtime is ahead with this simple, kid- friendly, five-minute DIY using four ingredients. You’ll need:

• 1 cup warm distilled water

• 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin

• 2 teaspoons sugar

• 2 tablespoons On Guard Foaming Hand Wash

Add all ingredients to medium-sized mixing bowl and stir. Grab an old bubble wand or make your own, then head outside to blow some bubbles. If you’re curious about how to create your own wand, simply find a pipe cleaner or wire and bend into the desired wand shape. To make a pipette wand instead, cut off the end of the bulb of a plastic pipette, then dip the cut end in the bubble mixture. Blow through the narrow end. How resourceful of you!

Not only are these bubbles safe, natural, and non-toxic, they’ll also help to clean hands instead of making them unbearably sticky. Store any extra or unused bubble mixture in an air-tight container for up to one month, and you’re prepped for the next bubbly playtime.

Naturally, the idea of bubbles also brings to mind the dirt and grime of a good, long time playing outside. A bubble bath to cleanse the mess can be a fun treat for the kids, so why not make your own solution using essential oils and other ingredients that will be gentle on your skin? Certainly, you could always just add essential oils directly to your bath; but because oils are not water soluble, they actually won’t dissolve in water alone. Normally, you’d add essential oils to Epsom salt or soap, then add to the water. In the case of our Homemade Bubble Bath, other ingredients in the recipe will help disperse the oil throughout the water. You’ll need:

• 1 cup unscented castile soap

• 1/2 cup vegetable glycerin

• 2 tablespoons water

• 15 drops dōTERRA essential oils (we’ll talk which ones down below)

Combine castile soap, glycerin, and water in glass bowl. Add essential oils, stir until well combined, and pour into glass container. To use, add 1/4 - 1/2 cup bubble bath mixture to warm, running bath water. When deciding which oils to use, think of the specific atmosphere you’d like to create. For relaxation, use Lavender or Serenity®. If it’s rejuvenation you’re after, opt for a citrus such as Citrus Bliss®.

Do take note that these bubbles will not be big, fluffy, long-lasting synthetic bubbles. Artificially high amounts of lather and foam don’t come with this DIY mix! But what does come with both the Homemade Bubble Bath recipe and On Guard Bubbles recipe is the joy of good, clean fun with loved ones, all with the simple, natural ingredients you’ve come to expect and trust from dōTERRA.
