Clementine Cuisine

· Essential Oils
broken image

Over a century ago, the first recorded clementines sprung up in the garden of an Algerian orphanage. Cold-pressed from the rinds of fruits grown in Brazil, dōTERRA® Clementine essential oil is best known for its cleansing power and mood-boosting properties, but today let’s see how we can incorporate it into our cuisine. Clementine is a natural hybrid of mandarin and sweet orange, so it makes sense to use this oil’s extra dose of sweetness and zest in the kitchen! If you’re a fan of citrus flavors on your breakfast, lunch or dinner plate, you’ll soon see why you should keep Clementine close by.

How about spicing up your favorite bran muffin or sweet bread recipe? Prepare as usual, with the addition of 1 cup frozen berries (raspberries or blueberries are best) and 2-3 drops Clementine essential oil, to taste.

Dressing up those salad greens is the perfect arena for some Clementine creativity. For those of us still learning how to pair dressings with salad elements, check out the following tips: When preparing a vinegar based dressing, be sure to pair ingredients thoughtfully. The dark vinegars, balsamic or red wine, pair perfectly with raspberry or strawberry salads, beef, and lamb. Light vinegars, including white wine vinegar, rice, or champagne vinegars, favor chicken and fish, as well as fruits such as pears, grapefruit, mango, and orange. Wondering about those delicious little additions like candied nuts and feta cheese? Thankfully, they pair with either kind of dressing! Now that we’ve discussed some vinaigrette basics, let’s get to making one with our kitchen companion, Clementine.

To make a Basic Vinaigrette you’ll need:

2/3 cup olive oil

1/2cup wine vinegar

2-3 teaspoons natural sweetener, to taste

1 teaspoon finely grated shallots or white onion

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/4 teaspoon minced garlic

1-2 drops dōTERRA Clementine

Combine all ingredients by shaking thoroughly. Enjoy with a robust salad!

Glazing a cake or pastry that begs to be complemented by citrus? Create something extra special by adding 1-2 drops Clementine to your glaze or frosting. How’s that for the simplest possible recipe boost? There are many more like it! Try tossing dried cranberries with Clementine essential oil before adding them to salads, trail mixes, and baked goods.

We could go on, and on, and on…but you’ve probably gotten the point that a bottle of this zesty citrus oil will complement a variety of culinary endeavors. Let’s get cooking with Clementine!
